On the morning of September 18, 2020, Professor Wang Yitao, Chair Professor of the University of Macau, Founding Dean of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, Secretary General of the International Society for Chinese Medicine, the Editor-in-Chief of SCI journal “Chinese Medicine”, was invited and visited School of Pharmacy, Lanzhou University. As the main lecturer of “Leading Lecture on Pharmacy”, he made an academic report entitled “The Quality of Chinese Medicine Research & Development” for teachers and students of the school. In addition, he exchanged and discussed with teachers and students on the inheritance and innovation of Chinese medicine, through his own experience of scientific research. The report meeting was hosted by Liu Yingqian, the Dean of School of Pharmacy.

After the report, Professor Wang had a discussion with the leaders and teachers. At the symposium, Dean Liu welcomed the visiting of Professor Wang and his team, introduced high-level talents, scientific research directions of innovation teams, and some recent research progress. Dean Liu said that in recent years, the school has gathered researches on the development and utilization of characteristic medicinal resources in Northwest China and has taken the path of characteristic discipline development. Professor Wang is an expert in the field of Chinese medicine innovation and research. Through this discussion, he hoped Professor Wang could provide opinions and suggestions for the School’s “14th Five-Year” development plan. At the same time, he also hoped that the School of Pharmacy Lanzhou University and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (University of Macau) would lay the foundation for extensive cooperation in the future, where taking regional characteristic resources as the object and international cutting-edge technology as the means, both sides could combine advantages of cutting-edge technology with Chinese medicine resources in west China, to promote the establishment of scientific research cooperation and innovative industry technology incubation projects of focusing on the development of Chinese medicine, and at the same time form a normalized mechanism for talent development and personnel research exchange between the both sides.

Professor Wang introduced the modes of joint training of postgraduates by the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and other universities, as well as cooperation among industry, university and research. He proposed to unite the relevant professional teachers of the school to carry out industry-university-research cooperation focusing on poverty alleviation in the west and the internationalization of Longyao industry, and jointly carry out research on the development and utilization of genuine medicinal materials in Gansu province, such as Rheum palmatum L. and Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels.
